  3. My family history database has three women in it named Anna Huseby. I believe your identification of this photograph as Anna (Huseby) Erickson is correct judging by the probable date of the photo, and Anna's age at the time. Anna didn't marry Anton Erickson until 20 Mar 1896, so she still would have been using her maiden name up until that year.

Anna (Huseby) Erickson also had a niece named Anna Mathilda Huseby, daughter of her older brother, John Albert Huseby. The younger Anna was born 2 Feb 1899, married a John William Morris in 1920, and died 20 Mar 1986 in Seattle, WA. I believe she would have been too young to be the Anna Huseby in the photo, and according to the information on the photographer below, he moved from Decorah to Waterloo, IA in 1900.

The third Anna Huseby passed away at the age of 7.

I also found some interesting information on the photographer Spurr:

SPURR Arthur H. Spurr was a photographer in Creston, IA 1880s through early 1900s. His son Frank Arthur Spurr was also a photographer in Creston, IA. His brother E. Willard Spurr was a photographer in Decorah, IA 1890s and in Waterloo, IA 1900-1920. He later moved to CA. SOURCE: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~iaphotos/PhotoShops/photogN-Z.htm

This would all seem to confirm that the photo is indeed of Anna (Huseby) Erickson and was probably taken by Spurr in Decorah between 1890-1896.

Interestingly I grew up in Decorah, IA (1960s-1980) and lived at 606 W. Water St.

  5. Well, that must have taken first place as fastest turnaround ever! And what thorough investigation and interesting details. Despite the wear on the photo, it's still quite evident she had a beautiful face. Glad her photo found its way home!

  6. Four years later... I received a message at ancestry.com from someone regarding a photo of the Anna Huseby family that I had saved. He had the original and wondered where I had gotten the picture. It had turned up in a Winneshiek County book of biographies put out by the Decorah Genealogy Association back in 1996 or thereabouts. As it turns out the gentleman was Richard "Dick" Erickson who is Anna's grandson. I mentioned that I also had an original photo of his grandmother, Anna (Huseby) Erickson, (my great grand aunt) and would be happy to give it to him since he is in her direct line of ancestry. So soon Anna's cabinet card will truly be home.
