Celebration for three Brainerd ant

A celebration!

I know they don’t look real happy…this must be pre~celebration…and I am not sure what they are drinking.

Not sure what they are celebrating BUT this is photo 2050 and we begin another year on this blog.  It has been six years!  Hardly seems that long to me.  I have returned, with your help 245 photos to family.  Photos that were Forgotten for a time…but now are home with relatives.

Recently I sent 103 photos to a Gentleman and when he reports back to me I will write the Full Circle Post…it was a search I undertook myself after discovering a wedding book on my second trip into a Brainerd Antique Shop…suddenly I had names…and from there I tracked down a few names of living relatives…I sent out two letters and one gentleman called me on the phone and we had a delightful chat about his relatives.  Many of those 103 photos were featured on the blog but some were not…I was happy to send them off in the mail.

Thank you dear readers and researchers, without your input this blog would not be possible.

Thanks for stopping by!

I cannot find a Lena on the Stephenson side of the family perhaps it she is on the Halverson side of the family.

Halverson group Laporte ant

Back:  Lillian Halverson and Lila Solum Walker

I will guess that this photo was taken about 1912 or 1913 (Ella the littlest girl was born in 1909.)

Ole and Marie (Person) Stephenson immigrated  from Sweden in 1884 to Sundahl Township in Norman County.  They were the parents of ten children, but only five survived infancy.

Ellen

Erick/ Eric married Augusta Groberg they had at least five children; Arthur, Clarence, Elsie, Lewis and Hazel.  Augusta’s brother Gustaf A Groberg (1867 – 1909) married an gal by the name of Anna Mathilda Kyllander. When Gustaf died in 1909 she married Erick’s brother August

Louis

August  Married Anna Mathilda Kyllander Groberg sometime after 1909.

Johanna Married Lewis H. Halverson.  Children Lillian, Ella and Jeannette

So I think the lady in the photo is the Anna Stephenson who is married to August Stephenson. I have no idea who Lila Solum Walker is.

In the 1920 Census the family is found in Norman County Minnesota with Lewis age 45, Johanna age 39,  Lillian age 14 and Ella age 10.

Jeannette Louise Halverson was born April 24 1920 in Norman County.  She married Roland Emmet Erickson (1920-2002) sometime before 1950.  They had one child James Brady Erickson  March 28 1950 – April 2 1950.  Jeannette died in Hennepin County April 10 1992. She is also buried at St Johns Cemetery Norman County along with her husband and son.

There is one photo of Jeannette.

Census Info:

In the 1930 Census they are all found in Minneapolis in Hennepin County.  Lewis is 55, Johanna is 49, Lillian is 24, Ella is 20 and Jeanette is 9.

In the 1940 Census they are found in Minneapolis in Hennepin County Johanna is 60, Lillian is 34, Ella is 30 and Jeannette is 20.

 Lewis died  April 15 1930.

Johanna died June 30, 1967

This whole family seems to be gone.  The strong tie to Norman County and St. Johns Cemetery seems to be Johanna’s parents Olof and Maria.

This is the Photographers info that appears on several of the older photos.  The Pioneer Studio Blackduck, Minn.

The Minnesota Historical Society has no record of this Studio.  They do have a record of L.H. Halverson being in business in Blackduck Minnesota in 1914 and later in Gary, Minnesota in 1920.

I think that perhaps Lewis left Wisconsin for Northern Minnesota about 1900.   He probably travelled by Ox cart especially if he was carrying his photographic supplies.  I think he met Johanna during his travels.   They met sometime before 1905 and married.   Blackduck was organized as a village on December 29 1900, and in 1905 the train made it’s way to Blackduck which was a logging area.

One day I purchased a number of photos at an Antique Shop at Kabekona Corners…better known as Dave’s Place/ The Peddler.  He said he purchased them at a church rummage sale in Park Rapids Minnesota.

There are eighteen photos in this bunch….all related.

We will start with the oldest.

I know from a census record that Johanna came to the United States when she was three years old in 1884.  So she was born about 1881….April 12, 1880.  Lewis H. was born about 1874 in Wisconsin.

Halverson is sometimes spelled Halvorson in census records..

Johanna’s maiden name was Stephenson, her parents were Olof and Maria.

Lewis H. and Johanna had three daughters and we will see photos of them tomorrow.
