Henry Carl Walther (18 Aug 1916 in New Jersey - 11 Sep 1982 in Harbor City, Los Angeles, CA) - Harbor City is just south of Gardena.
Mother's Maiden Name: Martha Dietz
The 1930 US Census shows a divorced Martha and (only child) Henry living in Liberty Corner, Somerset, New Jersey (about 30 miles west of New York City)
Interestingly enough, Henry C. Walther has a number of "Passenger Crew Lists" records - one showing him going from Sasebo, Japan to Honolulu as 2nd Mate arriving on 13 Dec 1945 with the intention to disembark. It shows him as 5' 8" and 170 pounds.
Another record shows this Henry married a Magdalene Barbara Ecknigk on 22 Jun 1956 in Los Angeles, California. If this is "our" Henry "Hank" - it would seem to indicate he divorced Edna - (perhaps before/because they had no children?)
This Henry and Dr. Magdalene divorced in Sep 1966. Magdalene was in the US from 1950/1 but only naturalized in 1965. (5 Nov 1917- 20 Feb 2004) Graduate of Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich Medical School , Class of 1942.
The various sea voyages would explain his "missing from the US Censuses".
I remember mother having this style of dress.
ReplyDeleteHere is the link to the "murky" Soroptimist party photo:

Another issue shows Edna getting the Soroptimist Club President pin:

This issue says the club celebrated the new bride, Edna St. Clair marriage to Henry Walther:

So she must have already been in California when she married.

Wow the house looks like its own little estate compared to the neighborhood.
DeleteThanks Iggy I think now I can make sense of some more names from the Soroptimist club photos
DeleteI haven't been here in a while! Your more recent photos are just as interesting as the older ones.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you and your family.
