Photo Number 1181

This week lets look at some houses.  This is a snapshot from the antique shop in Dorset Minnesota

Tar paper shack with rifles leaning and lodge poles Dorset antiques 1

This is an interesting photo. Five rifles are leaning up against the wall, long lodge poles are leaning up against a tree, a grinding wheel is attached to another tree and the person taking the photo is standing in a cabbage patch.  There is a huge brush pile on the left.  That grinding wheel probably sharpened an ax or two.

The building is what I would call a tar paper shack.  Years ago really poor people in Minnesota would build a small house..and cover it with tar paper and boards..the boards kept the tar paper in place when the wind blew.

Thanks for stopping by.  Do come again:)

  2. Now, there's a bit of history captured in that photo! Can you imagine living through a Minnesota winter in a place like that? I can't even handle the thought of living through a Minnesota winter in a well-insulated mansion...
