Photo Number 952

This is a photo from the Tin Ceiling in Park Rapids Minnesota.
Group of boys foreign Tin Ceiling
Group of Boys Tin Ceiling
Perhaps if someone can translate we will have a clue.  Some of them  look like tough little boys with their arms crossed in front of them.   Most of the boys seem to be wearing knickers.  I would guess that this photo is taken about 1920.  I think it is a foreign photo..but it could be that the person to whom the photo belonged could not read or write English.  Could the matt rolled out on the floor be a clue to the activity these boys were involved in?
Thanks for stopping by.  Do come again:)

Update: From dallastim
It is German
Here is my attempt at a translation:

  1. That mat looks more like a stretcher to me, with the handles.

I can't make out the words (the handwriting defeats me) - from what little I can piece together it appears to be ukraine-polish-slovak.

I think the word that looks like Vymsisy_vins is the key to this. Anyone have a better guess at the letters?

  2. I'm thinking it took a long time to get all of these fellas settled for this shot to be taken. Some look like they're thinking they'd like to take a whack at the photographer if they had the chance.
