Photo Number 799

This is a photo from the antique shop in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.

My Pet DL Antiques

It is marked on the back “My Pet.”

It is a raccoon.  A long time ago our neighbors bottle fed a baby raccoon..it was fine when he was little and cute.  Then he grew up and they released him into the wild.

Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)

  1. I know some people consider them pests, but I get a kick out of raccoons, probably because where I grew up we didn't have any. They seem to be quite smart creatures.

    Thanks for posting!

  2. I remember when I was growing up several people had raccoons for pets. At least the rural folk. We had raccoons that lived in an old tree in our pasture when my kids were growing up as it was right next to a creek. Thank goodness my kids never brought one to me. They're cute but they can be pretty destructive and mean too. We had farm dogs that kept them at bay I think.

  3. I didn't people kept raccoons as pets - I was always warned growing up to stay away from them as they were mean and carried diseases. They are amusing to watch though.

  4. We had a problem with a pack of raccoons living in our neighbor's tree. They would come down in our yard and try to get in our doggy door! They can be pretty mean, especially to smaller animals like cats or small dogs.
